Do it Yourself!

I wanted to change my plain, boring sweatshirt into something that I would actually wear. I played around with ideas and decided that lace would be the best choice. I knew what I wanted to do but I looked on the Internet for further inspiration. I found some pretty neat shirts but I did not have enough lace for a lot of the ideas.

How to:
1. First I cut off the neck and pinned down the lace
2. I then sewed on the lace and cut out a triangle for a V-neck.
The end result looks a lot cuter than what I first had. I'm glad I took the time out of my day to lace together a project. (Pun intended.)
This is a lace sweatshirt from Jason Wu. I love how he mixed the comfortable with the polished. His collection for Fall/Winter 2011 was modern and ladylike. You can check it out here

I think it is really cool when people mix vintage with modern. I do it myself a lot. Another cooler thing to do is to make something totally new from something old. One designer that does this is Tammy Wilhelms. She works with vintage jewelry and clothing to make unique one of a kind pieces. Check out her latest designs here.

Her work was featured in Country Living Magazine February 2010.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love how Thanksgiving colors, orange and brown, happen to be a great color combination  for fresh looking outfits. Happy Thanksgiving!

I usually look at fashion blogs on a monthly basis and one of my favorites is http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/. She always has cool styles that look effortless. Her mix of casual and formal looks are classy and her cute accessories are things I wish I could find.
Notice how she is wearing a bow tied shirt underneath her dress. I had a post that showed how popular bows are in fashion.

Sparkles!

I think the glitter wigs from the Comme Des Garcons Fall 2011 show were pretty cool. They just look like really fun pieces of art to wear on your head. It makes me want to spray glitter in my hair.
This is my vintage silver evening purse with sparkles. The lining is pretty tough inside. I used it at a dance and fit my phone and camera inside without it looking overstuffed. I'm glad I used it. I got compliments and it went well with my vintage silver earrings.

Here is a 40s inspired outfit. The dress has no label, the shoes say Personality, and the cape is Sherwood of Ohio and Kronenfeld Furs.

Miu Miu did a great job of channeling the 40s in their Fall 2011 collection. They showed interesting bird motifs, tortoise shell sunglasses, 40s hair, and sparkling contorted shoes. They chose Hailee Steinfeld to model in their campaign and she did a great job displaying the line. In the picture above they show the over sized clutch that was also very popular.

Tied into Fashion

Bows have always seem to be in fashion. You can dress them up or down. They make shoes and purses more delicate and if they have a wild pattern they can make anything more intricate.

Two vintage bow pins.

This is a vintage necklace and earring set I got that I thought was very pretty. I can actually see myself wearing them together and they look pretty modern separate from each other. I think I'll wear them with an Easter outfit because of the pastel-like colors.

The back of the earrings are signed LC.

Yesterday I went to the flea market and found some pretty cool vintage jewelry. The sand dollar necklace has the inscription Metta 75' on it which makes it easy to know which year it is from. I also really like the owl pin and the abalone shell pendant.

This is a plastic tiger ring that definitely adds some roar power to anything.

Awesome Ads!

I absolutely loved the famous September issue of Vogue this year. The ads were creative and a pleasure to look at. Some of my favorites were Salvatore Ferragamo, Oscar De La Renta, and Alexander McQueen.

Blinded by the Brights

Designers realized that bright hues are not just for Spring and Summer. This year is the first year in about ten years that designers have used this much color for Fall collections. Color blocking is not the main focus for Fall this year. Instead colors in the same palette are better. An accessory is also a great way to bring a bright color into a wardrobe.

A red lip also punches up the colors. I know I would probably not go for a red lip and instead just do a bright pink.

Last summer I bought this maroon nail polish and used it on my toes. I realized that it went with my wardrobe and wore it all this summer. Apparently everyone else found this color appealing because I have seen it so many times on people's toes it is unbelievable. I just thought it was funny that other people noticed how it goes with almost anything. The maroon/purplish/reddish color was seen on the Spring 2012 Jason Wu runway so it must be a good choice in color.

Classic Cool Flats

I have wanted women's oxford shoes for what seems like forever. I could never get them because I only saw them in magazines on the feet of celebrities. The brands that made this style were entirely out of my price range. This style has hit mainstream stores now at places like J.C. Penney and Target. I really want some and hopefully will be getting oxfords soon. My favorite color would have to be the light brown because of the vintage look of them.

Nailed it!

The lighting is really bad but this is what I did to my nails. I painted them gold and then added turquoise tips. The colors together remind me of the Egyptians for some reason.

Cute Snapshot

I really like these shorts so I just decided to wear them with simple things like a white shirt and sandals. I got them at J.C. Penney from the I Heart Ronson collection. My little brother wanted to take a picture with me and his Raggedy Ann doll. He is enjoying a sucker at this moment and I'm sure it was delicious.
